The main line is constructed of ¾” copper pipe and usually passes through the water heater where it splits to create hot and cold branch lines typically ½” copper pipes. Unlike sewer and drain line plumbing, water lines do not require sloping or venting but because they are under pressure, they require expert watertight connections.
